FLUSHING, N.Y. – On the road for their final regular season game, the D'Youville University women's soccer team play a hard-fought game against Queens College Saturday afternoon but fell by a score of 2-0.
The Saints (4-8-3, 3-4-1) looked to strike first early in the contest with a shot by
Jillian Bernas (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) but was turned away by Erin Kelly of the Knights in the sixth minute of play. Queens responded with a shot of their own in the 10th minute and were able to get the 1-0 advantage.
Lauren Zwolenkiewicz (Clarence Center, N.Y.) looked to tie things up in the 13th minute but was turned away. DYU had one last look in the first half to tie the game up in the 18th minute but
Laoise O'Haodha's (Limerick, Ireland) shot was saved.
Coming into the second half, the Saints continued to get on the board and had a look when
Hanna Dino (Niagara Falls, Ontario) ripped a shot off in the 59th minute but Kelly was there to make the save. The Knights were able to push their lead to 2-0 in the 64th minute.
Kailie Regan (Holley, N.Y.) went the distance in net, making four saves on six attempts.
The Saints will now turn their attention to the East Coast Conference Championships where they have earned the sixth seed. DYU will travel to third-seeded Mercy University next Thursday, November 2nd, in the first round. Game time to be determined.
