DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Playing in the First Round of the East Coast Conference Women's Soccer Championships, the D'Youville University women's soccer team fell to Mercy University by a score of 3-0 Thursday afternoon.
The Saints (4-9-3) fell behind 1-0 in the 19th minute as Jennifer Silva scored on the penalty kick.
Katie Liljenquist (Salt Lake City, Utah) got a piece of the shot but found its way in.
DYU looked to tie the game up in the 24th minute as both
Hannah Woodhouse (Queensbury, N.Y.) and
Laoise O'Haodha (Limerick, Ireland) got shots off just seconds apart but Kamy Anaya made the save both times. The Mavericks added their second goal in the 30th minute with Silva finding Amiah Washington for the goal. Mercy tacked on their third goal in the 33rd minute from Madison Rosa.
D'Youville had one last chance in the 89th minute as
Lauren Zwolenkiewicz (Clarence Center, N.Y.) but was saved by Kamy.
Liljenquist went the distance in net, making 10 saves on 13 attempts.
Prior to the game, D'Youville's
Cierra Barber was presented with the ECC Elite 20 Award. The ECC Elite 20 Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing in each of the ECC's 20 Championships.
