BUFFALO, N.Y. – Playing in their final regular season home game of the year, the D'Youville University women's soccer team fell to Daemen University by a score of 3-0 Tuesday evening at Dobson Field.
The Saints (4-7-3, 3-3-1 ECC) fell behind early in the match with the Wildcats (8-3-3, 6-0-1 ECC) getting on the board in the fifth minute off a Kylie Miranto. DYU tried to get the equalizer in the 14th minute as
Makayla Higgins (Warsaw, N.Y.) got a shot off but was turned away by Beccas Schultz.
Abby Nowak (Katy, Texas) also had a look just a minute later but was also turned away.
The Wildcats extended their lead in the 28th minute with Miranto adding her second goal of the night. Looking to battle back,
Hanna Dino (Niagara Falls, Ontario) had an opportunity in the 32nd minute but was turned away.
Kenzie Beyer (Lockport, N.Y.) also had a look in the 37th minute but Schultz was able to save it.
Miranto added her third goal of the evening in the 40th minute of play as the Wildcats took the 3-0 lead into the break.
Staying on the offense in the second half of action, DYU got off three shots in a span of two minutes just five minutes into the second half but shot by
Hannah Woodhouse (Queensbury, N.Y.) and
Jeslyn-Brooke Vallesteros (Aiea, Hawai'i) were just off the mark with Nowak's shot getting saved. Woodhouse did have one final look at net in the 83rd minute but was turned away.
Katie Liljenquist went the distance in net, making four saves on seven attempts.
The Saints will be back in action this Saturday, October 28
th, for their regular season finale at Queens College at 12 p.m. With a postseason already clinched, DYU will look to move up the conference standings and have a chance to hos the first round of the East Coast Conference Championships.
