BUFFALO, N.Y. – Returning home in nearly three weeks, the D'Youville University women's soccer team came away with a huge 6-2 against the College of Staten Island Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.
After scoreless first half of action,
Abby Nowak (Katy, Texas) got the Saints (4-6-3, 3-2-1 ECC) on the board after corralling a deflection from the keeper on a corner kick to get the party started in the 51st minute of play.
Ella Hurrle (Jordan Station, Ontario) continues to have a strong freshman season, adding her four goal of the season in the 67th minute as she took a shot deep in the right corner to burry it on the left side of the net.
The Dolphins (4-5-4, 2-4-1 ECC) got one back in the 68th minute but Hurrle once again answered, this time in the 77th minute to regain the two-goal lead as her shot deflected off the defender to get in the net.
Makaylah Higgins (Warsaw, N.Y.) scored just three minutes later off the corner kick from
Lauren Zwolenkiewicz (Clarence Center, N.Y.).
Laoise O'Haodha (Limerick, Ireland) tacked on an insurance goal to make it 5-1 in the 83rd minute.
CSI made a run late in the game, scoring in the 84th minute to make it 5-2. Zwolenkiewicz was able to dash any hopes of a comeback by the Dolphins, scoring in the 86th minute on a penalty kick.
Freshman goalkeeper Kaitie Liljenquist went the distance in net, making six saves on eight attempts.
Prior to this afternoon's game, the team recognized four seniors in
Cierra Barber (Hector, N.Y.),
Sarah Milczarski (Newfane, N.Y.), Nowak and Zwolenkiewicz for their time and dedication to the program throughout their time here.
