Box Score DUBOIS, Pa. – The D'Youville softball team battled hard against a talented No. 1 Florida National team, but ultimately fell 3-4 in the championship game of the 2022 USCAA Small College World Series. Hannah Ava Miller, Maddy Pepke, and Lauren Booth were each credited with one RBI, while Hannah Bardeen went 1-for-1 from the plate. Lauren Booth pitched 5.1 innings for the Saints, Cassie Crerar closed out the game.
How it happened
- The Saints put one on the board first, as Lauren Booth hit a hard double down the left field line bringing Maddy Pepke home in the top of the first.
- The Conquistadors responded in the bottom of the inning with a sacrifice fly to left field that brought in one run.
- The game remained 1-1 until the top of the fifth when Ava Miller hit a rocket to center field that brought teammate Hannah Bardeen home and put the Saints up by one.
- Pepke stepped up to the plate next, knocking a triple to left field and bringing Miller home to secure the 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the inning.
- Florida National was able to put three runs across the plate in the bottom of the sixth, securing the 4-3 lead going into the final inning.
- The Saints fought with everything they had in the top of the seventh, but unfortunately couldn't get a run to send it into the bottom.
