Saints Splits Wednesday Action, Advances to Championship Game

DUBOIS, Pa. – The D'Youville softball team split day three of the 2022 USCAA Small College World Series, falling to No. 1 Florida National in the 2 p.m. game, then coming back to defeat Mississippi University for Women 12-4 in five innings in the 6 p.m. game to advance to the championship game.

No. 2 D'Youville vs. No. 1 Florida National

The Saints fell 4-8 to No. 1 Florida National in the first game of the day. Maddy Pepke and Mikaela Milleville paced the Saints at the plate, as both seniors went 2-for-4. Both os Milleville's hits were homeruns over the right field fence, bringing in three runs total. Pepke and Gianna Adamo each scored one run for the Saints. Cassie Crerar started the game in the circle for the Saints, pitching 3.1 innings with two strikeouts. Sara Parzych closed out the game.

How it happened

  • The Saints got on the board early as Mikaela Milleville homered over the right field fence, bringing in Gianna Adamo and putting the Saints up 2-0 in the top of the first.
  • Milleville stepped up the plate in the top of the third for the second time in the game and homered over center field to add another run to the Saints' total.
  • The Conquistadors loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fourth and were able to get a run across on a fielder's choice. FNU added two more runs to tie the score up at 3-3.
  • Sarah Parzych entered the game to pitch in the bottom of the fourth.
  • FNU was able to get eight runs across the plate in the bottom of the fourth to take a 8-3 lead.
  • Defensively, the Saints were able to keep the Conquistadors from scoring again, but unfortunately were only able to get one more run across in the top of the seventh inning.
  • FNU took the game 8-4 off their strong fourth inning.

No. 2 D'Youville vs. No. 6 Mississippi University for Women

The Saints fought back in their second game of the day, defeating Mississippi University for Women 12-4 in five innings and advancing to the championship game of the 2022 USCAA Small College World Series. Ava Miller and Mikaela Milleville led the way at the plate for the Saints going 2-for-2 and 3-for-4, respectively. Miller was credited with a team-high four RBI and tied with teammates Gianna Adamo and Lauren Booth with two runs scored. Milleville was credited with three RBI and one run scored. Cassie Crerar was credited with her 10th win of the season, throwing for 2.1 innings while allowing no hits and striking out two.

How it happened

  • The Saints scored first, as Miller knocked a two-run double to left center in the bottom of the second. Miller then scored two batters later as Pepke hit a hard ball to MUW's shortstop who bobbled it and Miller was able to score.
  • Riley Phillips from MUW hit a three-run homer in the top of the third to tie up the game.
  • Miller recorded two more RBI in the bottom of the third as a single brought in Milleville and Lauren Booth.
  • MUW's Anna Sandlin brought the Owls within one as she scored on a wild pitch at the top of the fourth.
  • Milleville responded in the bottom of the fourth with a double to left center that brought Adamo home.
  • Mikayla Bush hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, bringing Booth home and extending the Saints' lead to 7-4.
  • The Saints added four runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the 12-4 victory over the Owls of MUW.
