Bardeen's Walk-Off, Trio of Triples Pushes Softball's Winning Streak to Seven

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The D'Youville softball team extended their winning streak to seven games Friday afternoon, sweeping the Molloy Lions, 2-1 on a 10th-inning walk-off single from junior Hannah Bardeen before using three RBI triples from three different Saints to complete the East Coast Conference doubleheader sweep. The pair of triumphs improves the Saints to 24-12 on the season and 13-9 in the ECC.

GAME ONE NOTES

The opener featured a pitcher's duel as both teams were held scoreless until they traded runs in the eighth inning. Molloy scored first in the top half of the inning on an RBI single to right-center.

Needing a run to keep the game going in the home half of the frame, Bardeen reached on a throwing error that scored sophomore Maddy Pepke from third base. Bardeen was initially called out on the play but after the umpires decided that the first baseman came off the bag, the play was overturned, and the game continued.

The Lions threatened in the top of the 10th inning, getting the go-ahead run to second base but freshman pitcher Cassie Crerar got the third out via a pop out to second base.

Sophomore Ava Miller led off the home half of the 10th reaching on an error by the Lion's shortstop. After Pepke was hit by a pitch later in the frame, she advanced into scoring position on a fielder's choice. That set the stage for Bardeen's walk-off single to left field.

IN THE CIRCLE

Crerar (W, 8-4) tossed all 10 innings in the D'Youville circle as she only surrendered one earned run on 10 hits.

AT THE PLATE

Freshman Gianna Adamo (2-for-5) paced the Saints' offense at the plate in the opener with a pair of singles.

GAME TWO NOTES

An RBI single in the top of the first gave the Lions the first lead of the game but the Saints answered with a pair in the bottom of the first when Bardeen tied the game with another RBI single and then senior Mikaela Milleville gave the Saints the lead with an RBI triple down the left-field line.

Back-to-back RBI triples from Pepke and Adamo tallied two more runs for the Saints in the second inning to put the Saints ahead 4-1.

IN THE CIRCLE

Freshman pitcher Sarah Parzych (W, 10-3) earned her 10th win of the season in the circle, stifling the Molloy offense in her complete-game victory … Parzych fanned four batters and only allowed one earned run on five hits.

AT THE PLATE

RBI triples from Pepke (2-for-2), Adamo (1-for-3), and Milleville (1-for-3) led the Saints' attack in the nightcap.

UP NEXT

The Saints and Lions will square off twice more tomorrow afternoon in the 2022 regular-season finale. Game times from Dobson Field are scheduled for 3 and 5 p.m.
