BUFFALO, N.Y. - The D'Youville softball team stayed hot on a warm afternoon at Dobson Field, extending their win streak to five games with a doubleheader sweep of Mercy, 8-0 and 6-5. The Saints jumped on the Mavericks in game one, ending the contest via the eight-run mercy rule after five and a half innings. In game two, the Saints fell behind 4-1 before storming back to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh and freshman Laura Beck secured the walk-off win on an RBI single in the bottom of the tenth inning. The pair of East Coast Conference victories improve the Saints to 22-12 overall and 11-9 in league play.
Sophomore Mikayla Bush got the Saints on the board in the top of the first inning with a two-run single to left-center. A fielding error by the Maverick right-fielder allowed the Saints to push two more runs across in the bottom of the first.
A two-run double off the bat of sophomore Hannah Bardeen and an RBI single from senior Mikaela Milleville pushed the Saints advantage to 7-0. Senior Maddy Pepke capped off the scoring for the Saints in the opener with an infield single that eventually brought sophomore Ava Miller into score.
Freshman Cassie Crerar (W, 8-4) held the Mercy offense at bay in the opening victory. She allowed only three hits in her five-inning complete game.
Pepke (3-for-3) and Bush (2-for-3) each hit safely multiple times for the Saints in game one.
The Saints fell behind early when the Mavericks (10-33, 8-12 ECC) tallied three runs in the top of the first inning.
Beck grabbed the first of her two RBIs in the game with a single up the middle to Put the Saints on the board in the bottom of the second.
D'Youville fell behind by three once more in the top of the fourth before freshman Emily Przybysz rounded the bases on a misplayed bunt single where the pitcher threw the ball away. Mikeala Milleville also scored on the play in the bottom of the sixth.
Needing a run in the bottom of the seventh to extend the game into extra innings, Milleville drove in Pepke on an infield single to second base to tie the game at four.
Mercy forced D'Youville's hand once more with a run in the top of the ninth inning but Bush came up clutch with an RBI triple to drive in freshman Gianna Adamo.
Beck won the game and completed D'Youville's perfect, 4-0 weekend with an RBI single in the bottom of the tenth inning.
Freshman Sarah Parzych (W, 9-3) went the distance for the Saints, tossing all ten innings in the D'Youville circle … Parzych struck out three and allowed four earned runs on 12 hits.
Milleville (3-for-5, 3B, RBI), Adamo (2-for-4, 2B), and Bush (2-for-5) each posted multi-hit games for the D'Youville offense.
The Saints host Molloy on Friday, April 29 for an ECC doubleheader. Game times are scheduled for 2:30 and 4:30 p.m at Dobson Field.
