Softball Splits ECC Series with Queens

QUEENS, N.Y. - The D'Youville softball team split an East Coast Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon with Queens, taking game one 3-1 before dropping a nail biter in game two. The Saints move to 12-4 overall and 4-2 in league play.

GAME ONE NOTES

Senior Maddy Pepke got D'Youville on board in the opener with an RBI infield single in the top of the third inning. Sophomore Ava Miller, who reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the frame, advanced home on Pepke's single.

Junior Hannah Bardeen came up big for the Saints in sixth inning with a two-run double to give D'Youville a 3-1 advantage, their first lead of the game. Bardeen led the Saints (2-for-3) paced the Saints' offense in the opener with D'Youville's only two-plus hit performance.

IN THE CIRCLE

Sophomore Lauren Booth got the start in game one and went four innings and struck out three batters while surrendering one run on four hits. Freshman Sarah Parzych (5-2) pitcher in relief of Booth allowed no runs on three hits in her 3.0 innings of work.

GAME TWO NOTES

The Saints got out to a 5-0 lead in the nightcap thanks to a two-run first and a two-run fourth inning. RBI single from seniors Mikaela Milleville and Carly Milleville helped the Saints start off on the right foot. Carly Milleville added another RBI single in the third inning and Mikaela Milleville picked up her second RBI in the fourth inning, reaching on a fielder's choice. 

Freshman Gianna Adamo added an RBI single in the fourth to help add to the five-run cushion. A four-run fifth inning and another run in the sixth for the Knights flipped the game for D'Youville as they were handed their second conference defeat of the season.

IN THE CIRCLE

Freshman Cassie Crerar (2-1) started for the Saints in game two and went for 5.1 innings ... Parzych picked up the final 0.2 innings in her second relief appearance of the afternoon.  

AT THE PLATE

Carly Milleville (3-for-4, 2 RBI) paced the Saints' offense while Pepke (2-for-4) and Adamo (2-for-4, RBI) also had multi-hit games.

UP NEXT 

The Saints return to Dobson Field on Monday, April 4 for a doubleheader with Hilbert. Games times are set for 3 and 5 p.m.
