Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The D'Youville men's basketball team could not overcome a slow start in a 94-72 setback at Roberts Wesleyan on Sunday.
The loss drops D'Youville's record to 1-8 on the year and 0-2 in East Coast Conference action. Roberts Wesleyan improves to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in ECC play.
Roberts Wesleyan scored 17 of the first 22 points over the first 6:28 of the contest to set the tone. The Redhawks shot 6-11 from the field compared to the Saints 2-10. Seven different Redhawks scored during the stretch.
A Rod Johnson dunk would bring the Saints to within eight, 24-17, with 7:52 to play in the opening half, but that would be as close as the Saints would get in the game.
The Redhawks also started the second half on a 19-8 run to turn a 45-27 halftime advantage into a 64-35 lead. D'Youville closed the game with an 11-5 stretch to close the gap to the final margin.
Johnson finished the day with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds. Grant Beyer led the Saints offensively with 12. Mason Putnam added nine.
Roberts Wesleyan had four score in double figures, including 18 points from Fope Okuyiga off the bench.
