Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. – The D'Youville women's volleyball team closed the 2021 regular season with a 3-0 loss to Mercy on Sunday.
D'Youville finishes the regular season at 3-21 and 2-9 in ECC play. Mercy improves to 12-13 overall and 7-3 in the ECC. The Mavericks are in third place in the ECC.
Mercy started the first set on a 7-0 run and scored 15 of the first 21 points en route to a 25-15 set win. The Mavericks hit .289 in the opening set and limited the Saints to a .077 clip.
The Saints opened with the first four and five of the first six of set two. Emma Wlostowski had three aces in the stretch. Mercy quickly tied the set at six and then scored eight in a row to take a 14-6 lead. The advantage would extend to 10 before claiming a 25-14 set win.
The third set started with another scoring run. This time it was Mercy scoring the first four. D'Youville came back to make it 9-8 Mercy eventually. The Saints got kills from Brianna Damstetter and Jaycee Karelus to supply a three-point spurt. The Mavericks would build the lead back to seven and eventually by 11, 25-14, by the close of the set to complete the straight-set sweep.
