BUFFALO, N.Y. - The D'Youville men's soccer team wrapped up East Coast Conference and regular-season action Saturday afternoon falling to Mercy, 14-0, at Dobson Field. The loss sees the Saints complete the regular season with a 4-9-3 record and an 0-8-1 mark in ECC play.
The Mavericks (9-5-2 overall, 5-2-2 ECC) raced out of the gates with an early goal Saturday. Mathias Kuhn found the back of the net on a long-distance effort, beating Anderson with a knuckling shot from outside of the 18-yard box in the third minute. The D'Youville defense weathered the storm for the next 20 minutes despite facing an onslaught of shots from the league's third-place team.
Mercy scored twice more in the first half via Pau Echarri in the 25th and 39th minutes. Echarri would complete his hat trick in the 58th minute on a penalty kick, the second converted and third opportunity for the Mavericks. Anderson dove to his right to save the first penalty kick in the 31st minute.
McNeal had two shots on goal for D'Youville, both in the second half … Anderson recorded 12 saves during his 90 minutes between the D'Youville posts ... Tormod Simonsen also tallied a hattrick for Mercy with four goals ... Three Mavericks scored more than once as eight total found the back of the net for Mercy.
The Saints will enter the USCAA Championship as the sixth seed beginning next week in Virginia Beach, Va. when they face Maine-Fort Kent on Thursday, Nov. 11. The kick-off is set for 1:15.
