BUFFALO, N.Y. - The D'Youville women's basketball team returned to the court for their second game of the season, taking on Bryant & Stratton-Buffalo in the 2021 Betty Abgott Invitational on the campus of Buffalo State. The Saints used a 28-point performance from sophomore guard Sara Pfeiffer on their way to a 71-60 victory to stay undefeated at 2-0 on the young season.
After struggling to find the bottom of the net in the first quarter, the Saints turned up the heat in the second quarter, scoring 27 points on the back of Pfeiffer's 16 points. Pfeiffer was on fire, cashing in on five three-pointers. Freshman guard Stella Mollica added 11 points in the opening 20 minutes.
Pfeiffer kept her foot on the pedal in the third quarter, stealing a Bobcat pass and then converting on an old-fashioned three-point play after being fouled on her fast-break layup to put the Saints ahead 46-37. Later in the quarter, a three-ball from Haleigh Schafer put the Saints ahead by 10 points at 54-44 with just under two minutes remaining.
Pfeiffer connected once more from beyond the arc just before the seven-minute mark, pulling up from the right wing to give the Saints a 61-50 lead with 8:25 left in the game. A free throw from Mollica put the Saints back ahead by seven at 65-58 and ended a four-minute scoring drought. Just about a minute later, Mollica banked in a prayer as the shot clock went off. On the ensuing inbound, Mollica stole the ball out of the Bobcat backcourt and converted another acrobatic lay-in to put the Saints ahead 68-59, securing D'Youville's second win of the season.
