BUFFALO, N.Y. - The D'Youville women's volleyball team picked up a much-needed home sweep (25-23, 25-22, 25-21) over Queens College in East Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon at the College Center Gym. The win snaps D'Youville's four-match losing skid and improves the Saints to 3-15 on the season and 2-5 in league play.
Kills from sophomore Brianna Damstetter and freshman Eve Musielak clinched a tight first set for the Saints where each team posted a .149 hitting percentage.
The Saints jumped out to a five-point lead early in the second set at 10-5 thanks to kill from Damstetter and freshman Samantha Killane. After the Knights cut the lead down to one at 16-15, D'Youville used another kill from Damstetter and an ace from freshman Nathalya Rocha to push the advantage back to four points at 19-15, as part of a 3-0 run. A kill from sophomore Sarah Wittek and a Queens' error gave the Saints a commanding two-set advantage.
After falling behind 15-12 to Queens in the third set on a 5-0 run from the Knights, the Saints took 10 of the next 13 points to reclaim a 22-17 lead. A kill from Musielak and a block from Rocha and Wittek sealed D'Youville's second win this season in ECC play.
The Saints were led in digs by Killane (20), Musielak (10), and freshman Emma Wlostowski (5) … D'Youville was led in kills by Musielak (7), Damstetter (6), and freshman Jaycee Karelus (5).
The Saints will continue home ECC action tomorrow at noon against Molloy.
