Box Score Bradford, PA - The D'Youville Women's Basketball Team suffered a big loss to the host Pitt.-Bradford Panthers Wednesday evening by the final score of 85-42.
The Panthers jumped out to an early lead over D'Youville with the score 11-2 Pitt.-Bradford 4:18 into the game. Bridget Andrews (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) made a three-pointer followed by a Jillian Piniewski (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca) layup brought the game to 13-7 Panthers. Pitt.-Bradford scored 10 unanswered points to extend their lead. After an Alexis Smith (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) made jump shot, D'Youville would only score 4 points in the final 6:26 of the first half to trail at halftime by the score of 20-41.
Smith opened up the second half with 4 straight points for the Spartans, however those 4 points were the only points scored for the first 9:33 of the second half. Sarah Marino (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy) gave the Spartans a boost making a three-pointer with just over 10 minutes left in the game. D'Youville followed up Marino's three with a free throw from Piniewski and a made jumper from Jean-Ann Korona (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville).
The next basket was a three-pointer made by Bridget Andrews, who made history with that shot. With 8:14 left in the game, Andrews made school history by becoming the 8th D'Youville Women's Basketball player in program history to score 1,000 points.
D'Youville would go on to score only 9 points for the remainder of the game, losing to the Panthers by the final score of 85-42.
Andrews, the record setting senior, led the Spartans with 11 points. Alexis Smith had 8 points for the team. Jean-Ann Korona 4 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Awilda Murphy (Kenmore, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) had a team high 5 assists.
Jillian Piniewski had a team high 9 points and 4 rebounds off the bench. Danette Laguerre (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) had 2 points with Sarah Marino scoring 3 points and pulling in 3 rebounds. Hannah Simone (Wayland, NY/Bishop Kearney) sank a three-pointer in her most action of the season. Casey Bartels (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) scored 2 points.
From the bench, all 9 players saw significant action. Amanda Marcely (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) had 2 rebounds. Ali Cochrane (New Port Richey, FL/Gulf), Mary Roberts (Rochester, NY/Northstar Christian Academy), Alyssa Donnelly (Alden, NY/Nardin Academy) and Morgan McDermott (Hamburg, NY/Nichols) all saw minutes for D'Youville.
The women look to rebound on Saturday as they head to Penn State-Altoona to play at 1pm.
