Box Score Greensburg, PA - The D'Youville Women's Basketball Team squared off against Pitt.-Greensburg Saturday afternoon and were defeated by the score of 76-56, losing their fifth straight game.
D'Youville's offense got off to a sluggish start, not scoring a point for the 8:04 of the game until a made free throw by Awilda Murphy (Kenmore, NY/Sacred Heart Academy). The Bobcats led 11-5 through the first 10 minutes of play after a fellow Sacred Heart alum,Bridget Andrews (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) scored on a layup. As the half went on, the Spartan offense began to pick up, trailing 16-20 after an Alexis Smith (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) made layup with 4:20 remaining. D'Youville would be outscored 11-6 for the remainder of the half, down 22-31 at the half.
As they did to begin the game, D'Youville's offense started the half off slow, only scoring 3 points in the first several minutes. With just under 5 minutes gone by, Dannette Laguerre (Buffalo, NY/Hutch Tech) converted an and-one opportunity to cut the Bobcat lead to 28-41. Pitt.-Greensburg would maintain their lead for the remainder of the second half.
D'Youville had moments on offense where they seemed to be getting back in the game, including an Ali Cochrane (New Port Richey, FL/Gulf) three-pointer late in the second half to cut the deficit to 12. The Bobcats would take their lead to the final horn, winning the game 76-56.
Leading the team with 14 points, Alexis Smith also led the team with 9 rebounds, missing a double-double by 1 rebound. Amanda Marcely (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) led all bench players with 12 points. Marcely and senior captain Casey Bartels (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) both led all bench players with 5 rebounds, with Bartels also scoring 5 points. Fellow senior captain Bridget Andrews also had 5 rebounds to go with her 8 points.
Jillian Piniewski (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca) had 4 points and 2 rebounds, while Awilda Murphy had 3 points, 3 steals, 2 assists, a block and a rebound.
The D'Youville women will look to bounce back and end their losing streak on Wednesday, January 28th at 6pm as they travel to Hilbert College.
