Box Score Buffalo, NY-Jean-Ann Korona (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) sank a pair of free throws with 1:07 remaining to give D'Youville a 67-66 win over Penn State Altoona.
Three Spartans finished n double-figures led by Shannon Dougherty (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) with a game-high 22 points. Dougherty was eight of 15 from the floor (3-6 from three-point range).
Backcourt mate Bridget Andrews (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart Academy)added 18 points and team-high five assists. After making a career-high six three pointers February 12 versus Medaille, Andrews made five trifectas tonight.
Two other Spartan starters had their best games of the season. Casey Bartels (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) scored a career-high 10 points to go with six rebounds and four assists. Jillian Piniewski (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) had eight points and 12 rebounds, both career-highs.
D'Youville led by seven at the half and extended that lead to as many as 14 in the second-half. Altoona rallied to take lead setting up for Korona's game-winning free-throws. Korona finished with five points and was th only player D'Youville non-starter to score.
The Spartans improve to 9-8 in AMCC play, 11-13 overall, and play their final regular-season game before the AMCC Tournament February 22 at Mount Aloysius.
