Box Score Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville Women's Basketball Team rebounded back after their loss on Saturday to defeat the visiting Hilbert Hawks in commanding fashion, 67-41 Monday evening.
D'Youville came out and immediately took control of the game. After two made free throws from senior Casey Bartels (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa), the Spartans never looked back. Leading 15-6 with 10:29 left in the first half, the Spartans put their collective foot on the pedal. Just 6 minutes later, D'Youville took a 30-12 lead on a Bridget Andrews (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) made free throw. Leading scorer Amanda Marcely (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) made a layup to close out the first half 41-19.
The second half was more of the same for the Spartans offense. D'Youville played a solid offensive and defensive game, outscoring Hilbert 26-22 in the second half to win the game by the final of 67-41. D'Youville never trailed in the game.
On overcoming the team's previous loss on Saturday, third year Head Coach Dan Glover wanted the team to come out focused.
"We just had to mentally regroup and come out strong," said Glover. "We knew our performance Saturday was not the team we were. We wanted to come out and show ourselves that we can put together a 40 minute effort and get a win."
Amanda Marcely led the team in points with 13 points. Marcely was tied for the team lead in rebounds with sophomore Jean-Ann Korona (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) with 8. Korona added 7 points of her own to go with 2 assists. Andrews and Bartels tied for the team lead with 4 assists each. Andrews, the team's captain, led the team with 5 steals.
Alexis Smith (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) had 8 points with 3 rebounds as a starter. All 15 of the D'Youville Spartans saw action on Monday night, with 26 total points coming off the bench.
The next game for the D'Youville Women's Basketball Team comes in the new year at Cazenovia on Sunday, January 4th at 2:00pm.
