Box Score Erie, PA-D'Youville staged a huge second-half comeback to make it close in the team's 76-65 loss at Penn State Behrend.
Four D'Youville players finished in double figures led by Alexis Smith (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) with 18 points. Shannon Dougherty (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) added 15 points, Bridget Andrews (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart) 12 points, and Danette Laguerre (Buffalo, NY/East) with 10 points. Add the 9 points from Maria Rosati (West Seneca, NY/St. Mary's) and the Spartan starters scored 64 of the team's 65 points.
Down 40-22 at halftime, the deficit grew to 26 points in the first six minutes of the second frame. The Spartans chipped away and then went on a 17-5 run over six and a half minute stretch that brought D'Youville to within 8 of the lead with 2:49 to play.
D'Youville shot a blistering 57.7% from the floor in the second, and Dougherty scored a team-high 12 points in that half. The Spartans outscored Behrend 43-36 in the final twenty minutes.
For the game. D'Youville shot 47.1% from the floor and made the same number of field-goals as Behrend (24).
D'Youville (5-13, 4-7 AMCC) will play at Franciscan January26th at 1:00 p.m. The Spartans defeated the Barons 62-49 in their first meeting of the season December 8th in Buffalo.
