Box Score Buffalo, NY -D'Youville snapped their 7-game losing streak with a 62-49 home court win over Penn State Altoona. The Spartans improve to 3-5 in the AMCC, 4-11 overall.
Bridget Andrews (Amherst, NY/Sacred Heart) led D'Youville with a career-high 24 points. Andrews did most of her damage at the free-throw line, going 11-13 from the stripe and 6 of 12 from the floor.
As a team, D'Youville shot a season-high 85.2% from the line, making 23 of 27 free throws.
Shannon Dougherty (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) added 11 points and 10 points apiece were scored by Maria Rosati (West Seneca, NY/St. Mary's) and Alexis Smith (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg). Rosati also grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds. Danette Laguerre (Buffalo, NY/East) tallied a game-high 5 steals.
D'Youville trailed winless Altoona by as many as seven in the first-half and rallied to take a 24-23 lead into halftime. The game remained close for the first nine minutes of the second-half and was tied at 39-39 with 10:36 to play. The Spartans broke it open with a 9-0 run that began with a Laguerre layup and five-straight points from Andrews. The Spartans held Altoona to just two field-goals in the final 6:26 of the game.
