Mia Special joined the D'Youville Athletics women's basketball program as a Graduate Assistant following an accomplished collegiate playing career. A four-year standout, Specials competed for two seasons at Erie Community College before finishing her career at Villa Maria College, where she surpassed 1,100 career points and earned numerous athletic and academic honors.
During her collegiate career, Specials was named NJCAA Second Team All-Region, a two-time NJCAA Academic All-Region selection, a two-time USCAA Academic All-American, and an NACIA Honorable Mention. She also received several institutional honors, including Most Valuable Player at Erie Community College, Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, and two-time Most Outstanding Student in Sport Management at Villa Maria. As a Graduate Assistant, Specials assists the Saints coaching staff with day-to-day operations, student-athlete development, recruiting, and game preparation while bringing her passion for the game and firsthand collegiate experience to the program.
