Matthew Ondesko enters his first season as the head women's tennis coach at D'Youville University while also serving as an assistant coach for the Saints' flag football program. Ondesko joins D'Youville after eight seasons as the head varsity girls tennis coach at Mount Mercy Academy, where he helped establish the Magic as one of the top programs in the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association. During his tenure, he compiled a 30-49 overall record and guided Mount Mercy to Monsignor Martin B Division championships in 2023 and 2025. The 2025 season marked the most successful campaign in program history, as the Magic posted a school-record 11 victories and finished 11-4 overall, including a 5-1 mark in league play. Over his final four seasons, Mount Mercy went 29-24 overall and 19-12 in league competition while producing three All-Catholic selections and two Catholic State doubles representatives.
In addition to his tennis experience, Ondesko played a key role in establishing Mount Mercy's girls flag football program. He launched the program as a club sport in 2024 before helping guide the Magic through their transition to varsity competition. Mount Mercy posted a 7-5 record over its first two seasons as a club before finishing 4-11 overall and 4-4 in Monsignor Martin play during its inaugural varsity campaign. Ondesko coached seven All-Catholic selections, including three First Team honorees, and helped produce Mount Mercy's first All-Western New York flag football selections. Among those standouts was Brailey Zimmer, who earned Second Team All-WNY honors after rushing for more than 1,900 yards to rank second nationally. Ondesko now brings his experience in both tennis and flag football to D'Youville as the Saints continue to build championship-level programs.
