Ashley Carney joined the D'Youville softball program as a volunteer assistant coach in 2021. She is in her sixth season overall with the team.
In 2021, Carney helped the Saints to 16 wins, including eight East Coast Conference wins, in their first season as an NCAA Division II and ECC member as well as a semifinal appearance in the USCAA Small College World Series.
Carney, one of the top players in the AMCC during her four-year playing career, finished with a .427 batting average, 79 runs scored and 51 RBI in 107 career games for D'Youville. A three-time All-AMCC selection, Carney was a mainstay in the D'Youville lineup and among the top hitters in the conference.Â
The Clarence, N.Y., native began her collegiate career by earning All-AMCC Third Team honors as a rookie. Leading the team in hits (37), batting average (.398), triples (4) and runs (17), Carney put together a 14-game hitting streak to begin her freshman season that included a 4-for-4 performance in her debut. Carney's sophomore campaign saw the outfielder rank second in the AMCC with a .464 batting average and fourth in the league with 51 hits, grabbing All-AMCC First Team and AMCC All-Tournament Team selections, as well as earning AMCC Player of the Week honors once.
As a junior in 2019, Carney again earned All-AMCC First Team honors thanks to a .445 batting average that was second-best among conference leaders. Carney also paced her team in stolen bases (four), at-bats (119), runs (26), hits (53), doubles (11), on base percentage (.518). She also picked up her second-straight AMCC All-Tournament Team selection. Despite being cut short, Carney's senior campaign also saw the outfielder rake with a .394 hitting clip while averaging a run per game.
Carney's scholastic career at Clarence High School was just as decorated, being named All-ECIC twice and earning All-WNY Scholar-Athlete honors.
Carney graduated from the BSN program at D'Youville in 2020.
