Saints Battle Hard in 1-0 Loss to Lake Erie College

BUFFALO, N.Y. — D'Youville fell to Lake Erie 1-0 on Tuesday night at Dobson Field. The decisive goal came in the second half, highlighting Lake Erie's advantage in shots on goal, with five compared to D'Youville's four. Despite D'Youville's efforts, including four saves by their goalkeeper in the second half, the Storm secured the win with a single tally.
The first half began with D'Youville asserting early offensive pressure, as Hanna Dino's (Niagara Falls, Ontario / Saint Paul Catholic) attempt at goal was saved by the Storm's goalkeeper in the opening minutes. D'Youville maintained the attack with multiple shots from Eleonora Cecchini (San Marino, Fiorentino, Italy Liceo delle Scienze Umane) and Olivia Paterniti (Allegany, N.Y. / Allegany-Limestone), though none found the back of the net. Defensive plays by D'Youville kept the Storm from capitalizing on their opportunities, with the half closing in a 0-0 draw.
The second half commenced with D'Youville striving to shift the game's momentum, as Grace Larsen's (Toronto, Ontario / Father John Redmon) early shot tested the Storm's goalkeeper. However, the Storm capitalized on their opportunities, with the Storm netting a goal in the 55th minute, giving Lake Erie a 1-0 lead.
Despite D'Youville's efforts to respond, including a notable save by Amanda Kit (Makham, Ontario / Bill Crothers Secondary) in the 62nd minute, they were unable to find the back of the net. Laoise O'Haodha's (Limerick, Ireland Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh) attempt in the 76th minute was stopped by the Storm goalkeeper, maintaining the Lake Erie's advantage. The half concluded with D'Youville trailing 1-0, as they were unable to break through the visitors' defense.
Amanda Kit recorded four saves during her full 90 minutes in goal, allowing only one goal on 13 shots faced. Larsen contributed defensively, registering one shot on goal. Dino and O'Haodha each managed to get one shot on goal, adding pressure to the opposing defense.
D'Youville fell to 1-4-1 overall and 0-1-0 in ECC conference play following the loss. The Storm improved to 4-1-1 overall.
The next challenge for the D'Youville soccer team takes them on the road to face Roberts Wesleyan University on Saturday, Sept. 27. The conference match is set for a 1 p.m. start in Rochester, N.Y.
