ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The D'Youville University Softball team opened conference play with a doubleheader at Molloy University on Friday afternoon. They Saints suffered a tough loss in game one falling 5-4 to the Lions. D'Youville then came out strong in game two winning 5-1 over Molloy.
D'Youville University 4 at Molloy University 5 – Game One
Game one between the Saints and Lions started close with neither team scoring a run for the first two innings. The Saints struck first in the top of the third as the Saints loaded the bases with only one out.
Summer Clark (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville East) knocked in a run as she grounded out to the right side of the field and
Annie Jorgenson (Victoria, BC, Canada / Belmont SS) came up big with a double to right field to put the Saints ahead 3-0.
Gabby Moreno (San Diego, Calif. / Rancho Buena Vista) doubled right after to knock Jorgenson in and bring the Saints to a 4-0 lead.
The Saints held their lead into the bottom of the fifth as the Lions fought back to put up three runs, but
Summer Clark came in as relief in the circle to shut the Lions down before they could tie the game. As the innings went on, the Saints held their lead until the bottom of the seventh. Molloy got a runner on first through a walk to start the inning and came up with a two-run walk off homerun to end the game and take the 5-4 win in game one.
D'Youville University 5 at Molloy University 3 – Game Two
The D'Youville offense got off to a quick start in game two as
Emily Przybysz (Hamburg, N.Y. / Frontier Central) led off the game with a single to right field followed by a walk from
Gianna Adamo (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint) to put runners on first and second.
Gabby Moreno reached first on a Lions error with two outs to score a run for D'Youville and give them the lead.
The Lions came right back in the bottom of the inning capitalizing on an error as well to tie the game at one after an inning of play. The Saints took back the lead in the top of the third as
Annie Jorgenson delivered another big single for the Saints to score Clark and put D'Youville ahead 2-1.
Jorgenson continued to be a big offensive threat for the Saints as a sacrifice fly to left scored Przybysz in the top of the fifth to put the Saints ahead 3-1 and then in her best at-bat of the day Jorgenson homered to right field to knock in two more runs and bring the Saints to a 5-1 lead in the top of the seventh. The Lions fought back again scoring two runs in the bottom of the inning, but it was not enough and the Saints would take game two 5-3.

The D'Youville University Softball team continued their ECC opening weekend tomorrow with a doubleheader against Queens College. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
