WASHINGTON, D.C. – The D'Youville University women's tennis team extended its unbeaten streak to start the fall season, earning a hard-fought 4–3 victory over University of the District of Columbia on Saturday afternoon.
In doubles play, the Firebirds opened by securing the point in two tiebreak sets, taking narrow wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, while the Saints claimed a default victory at No. 3.
As singles play began, the Saints quickly turned the momentum in their favor. D'Youville earned a default win at No. 6 and followed with straight-set victories from Miranda Bosch at No. 5 (6-3, 6-2) and Erika Ismailova at No. 4 (7-5, 6-4) to take the lead. With the match hanging in the balance, Mina Randjelovic delivered a three-set comeback win at No. 3 (4–6, 6–3, 6–1) to secure the team victory. Despite close battles at the top two singles spots, DYU never trailed again after the doubles round, closing out the day with a 3–0 overall record.
The Saints return home for a make-up match against Queens College on October 25th at 4:30 PM at South Towns Tennis Center.
