GREENSBURG, P.a. – The D'Youville University Softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Seton Hill University on the road on Sunday afternoon. The Saints Fell 11-0 after five innings in game and 9-1 after six innings in game two.
Game One
The Saints had a tough game at the plate in their first game with their lone hit coming from
Isabella Mancino (Wynantskill, N.Y. / Averill Park) who smashed a double to left center field in the top of the first. The Saints were unable to bring her in that inning and the Griffins would go on to score three runs in the bottom of the inning after posting three hits.
The Griffins struck again in the bottom of the third scoring three more runs to go up 6-0. With the Saints unable to produce at the plate, the Griffins went on to score five more runs in the bottom of the fourth and would win the first game 11-0 after five innings.
Kendal Lehnen (Sherrill, N.Y. / Vernon Verona Sherrill) got the first start of her college career in the game facing 25 batters and striking out five.
Game Two
The second game started out better for the Saints.
Laura Beck (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) led off the game with a walk and made it to second on a sacrifice bunt from Mancino.
Gianna Adamo (Lockport, N.Y. / Starpoint) came up next with a single to left field to keep the inning going and
Lauren Booth (Lancaster, N.Y. / Lancaster) came up next with a double to right field to score Beck to put the Saints up 1-0.
The Griffins came right back scoring three quick runs on three hits in the bottom of the first. The game remained at 3-1 until the bottom of the fourth when Seton Hill tacked on two more runs off a homerun.
Laura Beck connected in the top of the fifth with an infield single, but the Saints could not get her across the plate. The Griffins scored two more in the bottom of the fifth and added two more in the bottom of the sixth bringing the score to a 9-1 final.
Up Next
The Saints return home after their first weekend of play and get set to host Gannon University on March 3rd for a 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM doubleheader. This will be the home opener for the Saints before they depart for their Spring trip to Orlando, Florida to compete in the Spring Games.
