BUFFALO, NY – The D'Youville University women's tennis team was defeated by crosstown rival Daemen University in a hard fought 5-2 battle on Saturday night.

The Saints' freshmen doubles pairing of
Kseniya Zhdanok (Minsk, Belarus) and
Mina Randjelovic (Paracin, Serbia) cruised to a 6-1 win at first doubles. However, senior
Yuliia Kashtelian (Lviv, Ukraine) and sophomore
Maria Campisi (Caracas, Venezuela) fell 6-2 at second doubles and junior
Paola Ermina (San Sebastian, Spain) and junior
Yelizaveta Prokopenko lost 6-0 at third doubles as Daemen went on to claim the doubles point.

In singles action, Kashtelian cruised to a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles to get DYU on the board. Zhdanok also put together a clean performance at first singles, posting a 6-3, 6-2 win. After Randjelovic coasted to a 6-0 win in the first set at second singles, Daemen fought back to take the second 7-5 and force a third-set tiebreaker. Randjelovic fell behind 9-3 in the tiebreaker but battled back to cut the score to 9-8. The Wildcats, however, were able to close it out 10-8 and secure the 5-2 match victory.
With the loss, D'Youville ends their regular season with a 2-7 overall record and a 1-4 record in the ECC.
