Opening Kickoff
The D'Youville University women's soccer team will start the 2023 campaign with a pair of home matches Friday and Sunday at Dobson Field. The Saints will welcome the American International Yellowjackets on Friday before hosting the Assumption Greyhounds Sunday morning.
 
New Beginnings
DYU will be under the guidance of Interim Head Coach Angela Nicholas-Tolsma for the 2023 season. Nicholas-Tolsma comes from Medaille University where she was the head coach for the past six seasons.
 
Veteran Leadership
The Saints return 17 players from a season ago including their leading goal-scorer Eleonora Cecchini, who was named Second Team All-ECC for her four-goal, one-assist season. DYU also returns their assist leader from last season in Jeslyn-Brooke Vallesteros who assisted on a pair of goals.
 
On the defensive end, the Saints will be led once again by sophomore defender Chandra Philips, who earned USCAA Second Team All-American honors last season in helping the team secure a pair of shutout victories.
 
Of the returning players, five players saw action in all 16 matches from last season in Hanna Dino, Lily Gallagher, Jillian Bernas, Cecchini, and Philips. Hannah Woodhouse, Kenzie Beyer, and Gabrielle Brown also saw extensive time, playing in 15 matches.
 
Newcomers
The team added 10 newcomers to the squad for the year which includes eight freshman and a pair of freshmen. Transfers Izzy Deachman and T'Mia Kitchings made their way to DYU with coach Nicholas-Tolsma, having played a Medaille last season. Kitchings started in all 13 games played while scoring one goal. Deachman started in all 11 games played where she scored one goal and added an assist.
 
About American International

• The Yellowjackets will also begin their season on Friday.
• American International return their top goal-scorer from last season in Charlotte Bernard.
• The Yellowjackets are picked 10th in the NE10 Preseason Coaches Poll after posting a 5-8-3 overall record and a 3-7-2 record in the NE10 in 2022.

 
About Assumption

• The Greyhounds start their season this Friday as they play against Daemen at Dobson Field.
• Assumption returns their top-two goal-scorers from last season in Kate Carleson and Ashley Wenzel.
• The Greyhounds are picked seventh in the NE10 Preseason Coaches Poll after posting a 5-6-6 overall record and a 4-5-3 record in the NE10 in 2022.

Series History
This will be the first time the Saints will face both American International and Assumption.
