ERIE, Pa. – The D'Youville Women's Bowling Team finished their first day of the 2023 Grapevine Classic in seventh place out of ten teams. The 2023 Grapevine Classic is a ten-team tournament hosted by Penn State Behrend at Eastland Bowl. The ten teams in the tournament are D'Youville University, Penn State Behrend, Hilbert College, Daemen University, Saint Vincent College, Roberts Wesleyan University, La Roche University, Pitt. -Greensburg, Ursuline College, and William Smith College.
The first day of the tournament consisted of five traditional head-to-head matches. The team standings are based on total pinfall and the Saints landed in seventh out of ten teams with 4,031 total pins.
The Saints bowled the same five for all the matches:
Olivia Corbett (Dunkirk, N.Y./Dunkirk), Megan Kapsiak (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster Central), Makayla Pasierb (Dunkirk, N.Y./Dunkirk), Haley Campanello (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse), and
Summer Sega (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg).
Highlights
- Makayla Pasierb was the standout of the day finishing in seventh place out of 66 bowlers. Pasierb finished just 14 pins off the all-tournament team but bowled her best game of the day against Daemen with 227 total pins knocked down.
- Megan Kapsiak followed close behind Pasierb finishing in 13th place with her best game against Daemen as well with 221 pins.
- Summer Sega finished the day in 20th, Olivia Corbett finished in 22nd, and Haley Campanello rounded out the team in 42nd.
- The Saints earned their win against La Roche University. D'Youville knocked down 707 total pins while La Roche knocked down 585.
- The Saints played a close match against fellow ECC Opponent Daemen University, losing by just 25 pins.
The Saints will return tomorrow for the final day of the Grapevine Classic. They will face-off with Penn State Behrend, Ursuline, William Smith, and Pitt. -Greensburg starting at 10:00 am in baker style play.
