Women Head into Playoffs After Victory over Alfred State

Box Score

Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's soccer team capped off their regular season on Tuesday evening with a 3-1 victory over the Alfred State Pioneers on senior night.

D'Youville controlled the ball throughout the first half, generating several corner kicks and a handful of shots on goal. In the 34th minute, Makenna Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) did what she does best and scored a screamer to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead. The ball came from a nice ball over the top from Kaylee Heschke (Newfane, NY/Newfane) for the games first goal.

The game would go into halftime with the Spartans leading 1-0 and they would come out to score first in the second half. In the 63rd minute, Jordan Pachla (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) scored on a beautiful free kick to increase the team's lead to 2-0.

Alfred State would get a goal late in the 78th minute to bring their deficit to one, but the Spartans would answer right back to add an insurance goal on their way to victory. Cassie Brooks (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) took a free kick along the end line to the right of the Pioneer's goal that found the head of center back Sarah Milczarski (Newfane, NY/Newfane) for her first career goal, pushing D'Youville to a 3-1 win.

Laurie Poeller (Akron, NY/Akron) made two saves in the win as another outstanding defensive effort from Dominique Riforgiato (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia), Isabella Lucania (Webester, NY/Webster-Schroeder), Jordyn Riedel (Marilla, NY/Iroquois), Milczarski, and Brooks all played extremely well in the win. Anna Hayes (Hamburg, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy) came in and played a very strong game as well.

Rachel McMahan (Grand Island, NY/Sacred Heart Academy), Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic), and Heschke played very well in the midfield while Katelyn Eigenbrod (Arcade, NY/Pioneer) had a solid performance as well. Francesca Kobee (North Tonawanda, NY/Mt. St. Mary Academy) and Gabrielle Czech (Alden, NY/Alden) played well in their extended time.

Magee and Pachla increased their season goal totals with a pair.

The next game for the women will be this Saturday, November 2 as they host Penn State-Altoona at 2:00pm in the first round of the AMCC playoffs.
