Box Score Alfred, NY – The D'Youville women's soccer team tied their second game of the season on Saturday evening, drawing with the Alfred Saxons in double overtime 1-1.
Neither team was able to record a shot on goal in the first 25 minutes of play, with forward Jillian Golding (Lockport, NY/Lockport) recording two shots for the Spartans. In the 26th minute, Alfred's first shot on goal found the back of the net with the Saxons taking a 1-0 advantage.
Only two more shots would be taken in the remainder of the half, both by Alfred. Goalkeeper Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) was forced to make a save on one of those shots as the teams were locked in a defensive battle. After 45 minutes, the Saxons went into the break leading 1-0.
As the second half began and went past the 60th minute, the D'Youville offense began to churn more opportunities in the Alfred end. The Spartans outshot the Saxons 6-3 in the second half with their final shot being the one that counted the most.
With less than four minutes remaining in regulation, Magan Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) scored on her first shot of the game on assist from Golding to tie the game at 1-1. Neither team was able to break the tie in the final three-plus minutes of action, forcing the two sides to the first period of overtime.
Dulniak was busy in both overtime periods, making two saves in the first OT period to keep it scoreless and move the game into the second overtime. She then tallied three additional saves in the second overtime as the neither team could break the tie and the two teams finished with the score of 1-1.
Magee scored her team leading third goal of the season with Golding adding her team leading second assist. The team had nine total shots as Golding, Kiernan Johnson (Cherry Valley, IL/Keith School), and Amber Lundrigan (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) each recording two shots.
On the back end, Dulniak made eight saves in the game, allowing one goal. The team's defense had another strong performance overall, allowing only nine of 17 shots to get to Dulniak.
D'Youville will next play on Monday, September 18 as they host the Buffalo State Bengals at 7:00pm.
