Women's Soccer Suffers Loss to Buffalo State

Box Score

Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's soccer team suffered their second loss of the season on Monday afternoon, falling to the Buffalo State Bengals by the final score of 3-0.

Buffalo State put a goal on the board early just 7:17 into the game for a 1-0 lead. As the half went on, the Bengals would continue to provide a high level of pressure in the Spartan's defensive third.

In the 22nd minute, freshman Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic) entered the game in goal for her first appearance of the season due to an injury to starting goalkeeper Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga). Campbell was forced to make only one save as her defense was outstanding in allowing one shot on net and the half ended with the score remaining 1-0.

The second half started and Campbell was tested again, making her second save of the game. The Spartan defense of Jenna Tomizzi (Buffalo, NY/Sacred Heart Academy), Terra Juda (North Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield), Kailee Juzdowski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) and Rachel Hermanski (Cheektwoaga, NY/Maryvale) was very busy in front of the freshman and did a great job of allowing few shots on goal.

However in a matter of less than two minutes, Buffalo State put the game out of reach. In the 57th and 58th minutes, the Bengals scored a pair of goals to take a 3-0 lead to put the short-handed Spartans at a greater disadvantage. The final horn would sound and D'Youville would suffer their second loss of the season 3-0.

Campbell made an impressive seven saves in her first action of the season. The entire D'Youville squad stood strong in a tough game. Emily Carias (Eden, NY), Brittany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) and Rebecca Sliwowski (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) all contributing hugely in the midfield.

Forwards Kiernan Johnson (Cherry Valley, IL/Keith School) and Magan Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) checked back to help out the defense while Rachel McMahon (Grand Island, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) and Jordyn Riedel (Marilla, NY/Iroquois) played big minutes.

The women will next host Wells College on Wednesday, September 21st at Dobson Field. The game will begin at 7pm.
