Box Score Buffalo, NY - The D'Youville women's soccer team put on a defensive showcase once again Friday evening at Dobson Field, shutting out the visiting Alfred University Saxons 1-0.
Freshman Brittany Cristofanelli (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) put the first shot on frame in the game after 6:19 of play forcing the Saxon keeper to make a save. D'Youville's goalkeeper Megan Dulniak (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) then made a pair of saves just over a minute apart to keep the game scoreless.
As the half wore down, neither team would have a great chance to score. Each of the goalies and team defenses would hold firm and the game would remain tied 0-0.
The second half would start and D'Youville would immediately change the game. Leading goal scorer Magan Magee (Ellenburg Center, NY/Northern Adirondack) scored her fifth goal of the season after sending a shot over the Saxon goalie to break the scoreless tie. The assist on the goal went to Marina Campbell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Catholic).
Dulniak was called upon several times towards the end of the game to keep the game scoreless, and that is exactly what she did. With :10 to go in the game, Dulniak made a key save to keep the shutout in tact as the Spartans would go on to win 1-0.
The entire D'Youville defense was outstanding, as they have been all season long. Terra Juda (North TOnawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield), Kailee Juzdowski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), Jenna Tomizzi (Buffalo, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) and Rachel Hermanski (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) were solid on the back line all evening long.
D'Youville allowed only allowed eight shots to get through to Dulniak, who made all eight saves. On offense, five different players had a shot, with four of them on goal. With the goal, Magee recorded her second game winning goal of the season.
Freshman Rebecca Sliwowski (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) made her first start of the season in the game. Jordyn Riedel (Marilla, NY/Iroquois) and Rachel McMahan (Grand Island, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) saw plenty of playing time and both played well.
Kiernan Johnson (Cherry Valley, IL/Keith School) provided plenty of pressure at forward on the opposing defense and Emily Carias (Eden, NY/Eden) distributed the ball well in the midfield.
The team's shutout was their fifth of the season, tying their season total from last season.
The women will travel to Buffalo State on Monday, September 19th to play the Bengals at 5pm.
