Box Score Buffalo, NY - September 6th, 2014 - Coming off of their home opener on Thursday, the D'Youville Women's Soccer Team took to the field again Saturday afternoon, tying Buffalo State College Bengals 0-0.
For the second straight game, the Spartan's defensive unit put together an all around solid game. Junior Amanda Drake (West Winfield, NY/Mt Markham), senior Mallory Hojnacki (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) and freshman Jenna Tomizzi (Buffalo, NY/Sacred Heart) led the way on defense for D'Youville, playing well in front of junior Catie Giebner (Winslow, NJ/Winslow).
Playing well on the opposite end of the field were junior Aimee Pfuntner (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) and sophomore Terra Juda (Wheatfield, NY/Wheatfield). Between the two, they had half of the 4 shots on goal for the team. Throughout the afternoon, each provided several chances to put in a goal for the visiting team.
"I'm very happy with the teams focus and work rate today against a quality opponent," said Head Coach Lew Potter. "We improved quite a bit over the first four games."
Also adding to the Spartan's good play was junior Lauren Walsh (Kenmore, NY/Mt. St. Mary's).
D'Youville totaled 9 shots and 2 shots on goal to go with 9 saves on 9 shots by Giebner in net, who earned the shutout.
The next game for the D'Youville Women's Soccer Team is at Utica College on Wednesday, September 10th at 7:00pm.
